WHy Satya (TRUTHFULNESS) MATTERS... IN YOGA and in LIFE!!

This half term, we are considering the 'Yamas' or ethical guiding principles in yoga, reinforcing the message that yoga is about more than moving the physical body.

This week, we consider Satya. Satya is one of the key principles in yoga, and it means truthfulness, or honesty. But it’s not just about telling the truth—it’s about being honest in a kind and thoughtful way. Practicing Satya means being real with yourself and others. It’s about expressing how you truly feel, while also being respectful and caring. When we live with honesty, we make space for more genuine and trusting relationships.

In everyday life, Satya can really help us connect with people on a deeper level. When we’re honest about what we need, how we feel, or what matters to us, it invites others to do the same. This kind of honesty builds stronger, more meaningful connections.

Even on the yoga mat, Satya matters—it means listening to your body and not pushing into poses just to “keep up.” By practicing truthfulness with yourself, you create space for growth that’s safe and authentic.
