THE BENEFITS OF YOGA- A CALMER, HAPPIER MIND



Yoga is so beneficial for the body- bringing benefits to the digestive system, cardiovascular system and more, but for me, one of the main benefits is mental.

 

My mind, like many others, sometimes jumps from one worry to the next, replaying the past or planning ahead (imagining something that might never happen !!)

 

Science shows that this kind of mind wandering often makes us less happy.

 

 When we’re not present, we tend to feel more stressed and disconnected. Yoga helps with this by teaching us to focus on the breath and the body.

 

When we are aware of our mind wandering, we can gently bring our attention back within, or onto our chosen mantra.

 

Over time, this awareness helps the mind settle—and that calm, present focus naturally makes us happier.

 

Sutra 1.1 “Yoga chitta vritti nirodhah”—yoga is the stilling of the fluctuations of the mind.

 

I think it's incredible that this knowledge, thought to be written around 1500BCE is even more relevant now in our age of digital distractions, than when it was written.
