In a busy world that constantly asks for more, one of the most powerful things you can do is pay attention—to what energises you and what drains you. Your energy is a valuable resource. Where you spend it shapes how you feel, how you show up, and ultimately, whether you move closer to your goals or further away from them.
Many of us are surprisingly disconnected from our own energy levels. We push through tiredness, ignore tension, and say yes out of habit rather than intention. Over time, this can leave us feeling flat, overwhelmed, or stuck. Awareness is the first step to change, and this is where yoga can be a powerful tool.
Yoga invites you to slow down and tune in. Through movement, breath, and stillness, you begin to notice subtle signals: which poses feel nourishing, which feel depleting, how your breath changes with different thoughts or emotions.
THIS IS THE INTERESTING BIT! The practice of noticing doesn’t stay on the mat. It starts to show up in daily life—how certain conversations lift you up, while others leave you heavy; how some routines support you, while others quietly drain you.
When you understand your energy, goal-setting becomes more honest and sustainable.
Instead of forcing yourself into routines that “should” work, you can design goals that align with what actually fuels you. Progress feels less like a battle and more like a natural flow.
So, what could you do less of this year? Perhaps it’s overcommitting (I think I do this!) excessive screen time, (and this too!) negative self-talk, or saying yes when you mean no.
Letting go isn’t about failure—it’s about making space.
To discover what energises you and what doesn’t, start small. Notice how you feel after activities, not just during them.
Try journalling for a week, rating your energy before and after your day.
Use yoga or quiet moments to check in with your body.
Ask yourself simple questions: Do I feel expanded or contracted? Calm or tense?
Your energy is always giving you feedback. When you listen, you give yourself the clarity to move toward a life that truly supports you.
