FIVE SENSES MEDITATION

A very good friend of mine bought me a book by Jo Bowlby. Jo is a Shamanic teacher, coach and mentor. In her 'A Book for Life' is this short meditation. I've recently started some mindulness practices and this is one of them. It's a good way to break any negative thought patterns and bring us back to the present moment.

You can do this in just a few moment and it can be done anywhere-home, work or out and about.

First, look around and name five or six things you can see- a chair, a window, a car.

Then, notice the furthest sound you can hear...and any other sounds closer to you, until you get to the nearest sound.

Notice what you can smell.

Notice if you can taste anything.

Finally notice how your body feels in the seat or bed you are in, in contact with the ground, or what you can feel beneath your fingers.

Coming out of your head and into your body is an effective way of stopping the mind whirring off into past rumination, or future worries or anxieties.

With thanks to Jo Bowlby and my special friend Sarah!!
